Among other things, the Calaveras County Division of Solid Waste takes responsibility for the following programs and operations:

• Develop and implement the Countywide plan for solid waste management;
• Operate the Rock Creek Solid Waste Facility, incuding Permanent Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility;
• Operate the Red Hill Wood and Yard Waste Collection Site;
• Oversee contract operation of the transfer stations in Avery, Copperopolis, Paloma, Red Hill, San Andreas, and Wilseyville;
• Organize and manage the annual household hazardous waste (HHW) collection events;
• Issue and administer hauling permits for all privately-owned garbage collection companies;
• Organize and coordinate a variety of recycling programs, including recycling drop-off centers at the transfer stations, County-sponsored used oil collection centers, and Christrmas tree and phone book recycling; and
• Monitor and maintain the closed Red Hill Landfill and seven other closed dump sites located throughout the County.

For local enforcement of State solid waste regulations, contact the Calaveras County Department of Environmental Health at 754-6390, Monday through Friday between 8 am and 5 pm.

For local enforcement of State air pollution control regulations, contact the Calaveras County Air Pollution Control District at 754-6588, Monday through Friday between 8 am and 5 pm.

For enforcement of zoning restrictions and land use conditions, contact the Calaveras County Planning Department at 754-6394, Monday through Friday between 8 am and 5 pm.

For State enforcement of water quality regulations, contact California Regional Water Quality Control Board

For State enforcement of solid waste management regulations, contact California Integrated Waste Managment Board

• For service along the Highway 4 corridor from Angels Camp to Arnold, call SEI Solid Waste at 795-1532 Monday through Friday between 8 am and 5 pm.

• For service in all other areas of the County, call Calaveras Disposal at 274-2454 Monday through Friday between 8 am and 5 pm.
